Bates Observatory Presentation to the Board of Selectmen December 4, 2012

You will recall in June 2012, the Board of Selectmen accepted my offer to collect materials that I hoped would support a “state of activity” with a view toward obtaining a vote by townspeople to decide on the future of this project, particularly in consideration of the generous bequest of George Doane.

I have enclosed a copy of the PowerPoint slides and the script of my presentation at the December 4 meeting of the Board of Selectmen. The meeting will be aired on LPAC over the next couple of weeks and will also be loaded on the town’s website for access by the public at large along with this memorandum.

The Board of Selectmen endorsed my request to solicit input from various town departments and groups, particularly with respect to the questions on slide #10, supplemented with additional discussion on pages 5 & 6 of the script.

We hope to compile an outline and comprehensive evaluation that represents departments and interested groups prior to asking our townspeople to vote on a future course of action by late Spring 2013.

I have included a 15-page summary outline of the documents reviewed and a synopsis for quick-access to information prepared to support the information shared during the presentation.

We hope to make our first round of responses available to the public by mid-January 2013.

More to follow as the evaluation progresses.
