North Brookfield Memorial Day Chicken Barbecue – May 28
Come one, come all, good times, good food
The Friends of The Town House, in partnership with the First Congregational Church of North Brookfield, will hold its annual Memorial Day Chicken Barbecue on Monday, May 28th from noon to 2PM. North Brookfield has a full array of events to celebrate the sacrifices and patriotism of North Brookfield veterans who have given distinguished service to their country over the years. Following these ceremonies the BBQ will be held under the big tent on the Church lawn.
Tickets for the BBQ are $10 each, and are for sale at the First Congregational Church each Friday from 5 until 9 PM. They will also be available at the Town Offices, the Haston Free Public Library, STATZ, and TIME OUT. For other ticket arrangements call Jean at (508) 867-7855, or Mike at (207) 641-7137. Take-out meals are available. All proceeds from the Barbecue will help restore the North Brookfield Town House, and provide support for worthy causes of the First Congregational Church.
Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on the 5th of May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. Originally known as Decoration Day, it was designated for the purpose of strewing flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of those who died in defense of the nation during the Civil War. The Town House, itself, stands as a memorial to the brave North Brookfield soldiers who fought during that great struggle. Their names are inscribed on massive marble plaques hanging on the wall of the Great Hall.
Please join our community for a terrific chicken BBQ this Memorial Day. Enjoy the food and fellowship, music, and door prizes. Support the Friends’ and the Church’s effort to bring vitality back to the center of North Brookfield. Get your tickets soon, and spread the word to your families, friends and neighbors. It should be a WONDERFUL DAY for everyone.
