Historical Commission

The North Brookfield Historical Commission is the municipal agency responsible for ensuring that preservation concerns are considered in community planning and development decisions.  Working closely with the Massachusetts Historical Commission, it serves as a local preservation advocate and as an important resource for information about the community’s cultural resources and preservation activities.

Commission members meet several times a year to discuss their progress compiling and updating the Town’s historic properties inventory and advising elected officials and other boards on historic preservation issues.  These issues could include zoning changes, the re-use of municipally owned historic buildings, master planning, or preservation of historic landscapes.

The North Brookfield Historical Commission is open to any North Brookfield resident.  Anyone who wishes to join the Commission need only state their interest on a volunteer application form, be appointed by the Selectmen, and sworn in by the Town Clerk.  The APPLICATION TO SERVE ON A TOWN BOARD OR COMMITTEE can be requested by contacting selectmen@northbrookfield.net, or calling Ashley Barre, Administrative Assistant, at 508.867.0200.
